In this introductory free course I will show many aspects of the activities required to publish manuscripts in scientific journals, from thinking about the role of authors to the interaction with the editors to the dissemination of your research, among others.The course is part of a full training program I offer in the area of scientific publication for scientists. I am a visiting professor and this short introduction is a partial overview of the complete content of a series of courses I have been teaching in class around the world for years, which I am now placing online. Accessing the literature has become easier and at the same time more complex. Preparing, publishing and disseminating your research requires many more activities than writing. These start from the moment you design your research project and go until the manuscript is finally published in a journal. The number of tools, websites and scholarly services is overwhelming: academic databases, academic search engines, journals, novel reviews and journal groups, manuscript editing tools, paper readers, collaborative tools, AI tools, ….For these reasons, many scientists do not have a good understanding of all areas of the publication process. Writing well is necessary but not sufficient. And now is not enough to serially publish manuscripts. You must plan ahead your publications.
The real objective for this course is to “open your eyes” to the many aspects related to publication in journals, so you can start planning your publications with a more broad perspective of the current scientific publication landscape.
