Description
This course is designed to assist high school and college students in transitioning into college with a learning disability. Students will learn of the changes coming their way as they leave high school and enter college, be given the opportunity to evaluate their level of involvement in their education, as well as learn to identify and understand their IEP, or Individualized Education Program. Students will learn the process of how exactly to get their learning disability documented because many colleges require further documentation than an IEP. Students will learn how to find and fill out necessary forms, navigate college disability office websites, and identify their learning deficits and past accommodations. Students are given specific direction on how to communicate with the disability office and receive the accommodations they seek. Lastly, the course includes remedial essay research, organization, and writing instruction to prepare students for coursework in college.
