Description
The richness of our human experience is constantly being reflected back at us in film, theater and video.
This course ‘mines’ a particular movie for the wealth of important information that it contains about subjects like Shame and Attachment. This is a foundation course built on a series of journaling assignments that challenge the student to closely and non-judgmentally observe how the characters are interacting.
Students are guided to notice the manner in which various characters unconsciously control the social-environment; how parents inadvertently shape the character of their children, often in ways that they themselves would consider harmful. I could go on and on, because the subject matter is so rich, but you are invited to reveal the complexity and magnificence of this human ‘fabric’ for yourself.
I do need to warn you however that the film that I have chosen deals with potentially challenging subject matter that includes mental health, substance use, body image, homosexuality, pornography, shame, death and suicide, so if you’re uncomfortable, for whatever reason, with any of these topics, perhaps one of my other courses would be a better fit for you.
