Part 5: Wireless & Routing Fundamentals
In this module, students will develop a strong foundation in both wireless networking and routing concepts, essential for understanding modern network infrastructure.We begin with wireless basics, covering the fundamentals of Wi-Fi, including frequency bands (2.4 GHz & 5 GHz), IEEE 802.11 standards, and wireless communication principles. Students will learn how access points (APs) enable connectivity and the role of SSIDs in network identification.
Next, we explore Cisco wireless networking, focusing on deployment models such as autonomous, lightweight, and controller-based solutions. We will also discuss Wireless LAN Controllers (WLCs) and the CAPWAP protocol, which helps manage APs centrally for improved scalability and efficiency.
Security is a crucial aspect of wireless networking, so we will cover Cisco wireless security best practices. This includes encryption methods like WPA2/WPA3, authentication protocols (802.1X), and techniques to mitigate threats such as rogue APs and wireless interference.Moving into routing fundamentals, students will understand how routers forward packets, the difference between static and dynamic routing, and how administrative distance influences route selection. Finally, we will apply these concepts with hands-on configuration of IPv4 and IPv6 static routing, ensuring network devices can communicate efficiently across different subnets.
By the end of this module, students will be able to deploy secure Cisco wireless networks and configure static routing for seamless network communication.
